About the Hand Up Hub & our mission
This is the Hand Up Hubs story,
First I want to say, I was born and raised in Ohio. But as a young woman, my husband and I moved to Tennessee. I pretty much spent my adult life there. Right after the new millenium I found myself at the end of my first marriage. It was a difficult time. My two youngest children went to stay with their father and the two oldest stayed with me. I found my second husband there in Tennessee. We spent 13 years together before getting married. I thought he would be the one I spent my life with. it wasn't soon after we married though that things started getting rocky. The marriage got violent and even though I knew that it wasn't right and I should have left for good, at the time I wanted to stay and work on the marriage.
I came back to Ohio to visit my daughter the beginning of Feb. with the agreement that whenI came home we would work on our marriage. The week after valentines day he told me not to come back, he had moved another woman in.
So, with no friends, no job, no vehicle, 1 suitcase and no place of my own in a state I hadn't lived in for over a decade, I found I had to start over. It didn't matter if I wanted to or not. It completely devasted me. I felt like I would never heal.
So First I applied for a divorce, then enrolled in school. Here I was past middle aged and having to go to school to get a career so I would never be dependent again.
It was that moment that I started to learn about the real world. I was no longer in the deep country with nothing more to worry about than what creek we were going to or where we were gonna go fishing. I learned and dealt with dementia, diseases that barely anyone hear of, addictions, cancer, homelessness, and losing everything all over again after working so hard for it (just this past year.). I found that the law isn't always right and not everyone is your friend and so many more lessons that went way deeper. And the whole time was in school fighting to keep my education going. (Something I am still working on )
Through all of this, with much thinking about everything I had gone through and what it was that I really wanted to do with my life, I noticed alot of similarities through these past years.
I found that people often find themselves stuck not knowing where to find the help that they need and sometimes, knowing they need help but not sure what kind of help that they need so they can ask where to find that help. Or knowing what help and where to go but now knowing the who, we could mingle these together a few more times but I won't.
That is what the Hand Up Hub is all about.
I founded this on helping others find the help they need, no matter how little or how big the problem or situation is, doesn't matter the age or location or the person. The Hand Up Hub is there to offer a Hand Up.
If it is a fifth grader needing help with homework, or the parent needing help finding the fifth grader a tudor, yep we can help find that.
Need help figuring out how to change your oil, or even fixing your engine on your own, or need help finding an honest mechanic for cheap. I know one that can help at great prices. Or we can help you find out how to do it yourself.
If you need help finding housing or help with utilities etc. We can help.
We also offer packages where we can coach you through life if needed, and we do offer a variety of payment options.
Sometimes all we need is a helping hand, and we know not everyone is asking for a hand out.
It is the Hand Up Hubs mission to help anyone that asks, find the resources that the need to be / stay positive, productive, and confident in / for themselves and the community.
